Garbage & Recycling

Our garbage service is through: Green For Life (GFL).

Pick-up: Monday mornings (typically around 6:30-7:30am, but that can vary)

*Holidays that fall on a Monday result in a Tuesday morning pick-up. Those holidays are:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas

Putting totes out: You may put your garbage tote out no earlier than Sunday afternoon.

Garbage tote placement: Please place your garbage tote at the end of your driveway (parking spot in front of your garage). For those with detached garages, you can place your totes outside of your garage. Totes that are not placed along the road and within the garbage truck’s arm reach will not be picked up.

Putting your tote away: Please put your garbage tote away as soon as possible. Totes not put away by Wednesday morning will be noted and may result in fines. Your tote should be placed inside your garage.

Adding numbers to your tote: GFL has given permission to add your unit number to your garbage tote with stickers – as long as the stickers are removable.

Disposing of large or bulk items:

Our recycling service is through the City of Champaign:

Pick-up (2 times per week): Tuesdays and Fridays

Recycle tote locations: There are 3 sets of recycle bins around the property. These are located by each set of mailboxes.

What can I recycle?

Got something you need to recycle?  No problem.  “The Thing’s” not a picky eater.  If it’s paper, plastic, metal, or glass, you can pretty much toss it in, with a few notable exceptions.

Recycle - Plastic

We accept all glass and plastic no. 1-7 (check for recycling symbol on container), as well as plastic shopping bags.  Please rinse all containers and flatten plastic containers to save space.

Recycling - Cardboard

We accept corrugated cardboard and boxboard (i.e. cereal, soda, and beer packaging).  Please flatten all boxes.  We also accept magazines, paperback books, paper bags, newspaper and mixed paper, as well as plastic/wax-coated paper (milk and juice cartons).  Clean pizza boxes can be recycled.

We accept most metal cans (tin, steel, and aluminum), including empty aerosol cans.  Labels do not need to be removed.  Please rinse all cans and flatten drink cans to save space.  Clean aluminum foil and trays can also be recycled.
